Hung Hom Ferry Mystery

fmd_good Hung Hom

So I was in Hung Hom, right near the pier, last week. Beautiful sunset, the usual hustle and bustle... Then I saw this guy, dressed all in black, just staring out at the water. He was totally stil… more

Hong Kong's full of weird stuff, especially at night. Maybe he was just a really good magician practicing his disappearing act? Or maybe he's one of those urban explorers who finds secret escape routes. Lots of hidden passageways around those old piers, you know? It's also possible he simply blended into the crowd... It's crazy busy there at sunset. I've seen people seemingly materialize and dematerialize in the crowds around Mong Kok, so anything's possible. Who knows, maybe he was just a really dedicated observer of the sunset.

That's a pretty wild take on it! I hadn't thought about the magician angle...or the urban explorer thing. Mong Kok is insane though, I can totally see someone getting swallowed up by the crowd there. Makes you wonder what other weird stuff goes on in Hong Kong that nobody ever notices. Maybe the ferry mystery isn't so mysterious after all, just a really good case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time (or the right place at the right time, for an urban explorer!).

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
