Escalators to the Top?

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

I’m heading to Mid-Levels Central in a few weeks and I’m totally hyped to finally ride those legendary escalators everyone talks about. Seriously, it sounds insane – the longest outdoor covered escal… more

The escalators are awesome, but yeah, it can be a bit of a labyrinth up there. Don't worry too much about getting lost though; just keep an eye on the signs and generally head uphill. The whole thing’s pretty well-marked. One thing: the escalators aren't one continuous thing – there are sections where you have to walk a bit between them. Don't expect a smooth, unbroken ride to the top. As for cool spots, just wandering around is half the fun. You'll stumble upon some great little cafes and shops tucked away in the side streets. The views from the top are fantastic, especially at sunset. Also, if you're feeling adventurous, there are some smaller side streets that branch off – exploring those might lead to some unexpected discoveries. Just keep your phone's map handy, and you'll be fine. You won't fall down a hill into a bowl of noodles; I promise. Unless you're actively trying to, of course.

HKShueYan Uni Food Scene?

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

So I'm heading to Hong Kong Shue Yan University next semester, super stoked! Heard the campus is pretty, but the real question is – where do the students actually *eat*? Is it all overpriced cafeter… more

Lots of good, cheap eats around HKU SY! Forget the cafeteria unless you're really pressed for time. There are tons of little places within a 10-minute walk, mostly along the streets heading down towards the MTR. Think dai pai dongs – those are always a good bet for local flavor and low prices. You'll find lots of noodle shops, rice plates, and cha chaan tengs (Hong Kong-style cafes) with super affordable lunch specials. Also, grab food from the street vendors, they are often amazing value. Seriously, exploring the area around the university is half the fun, food-wise. Don't be afraid to just wander around and see what catches your eye! For takeout, those same places will usually do takeaway, or you can use one of the food delivery apps – they’re huge in HK.

Wow, that's super helpful! Thanks! I was picturing something a bit more... sterile, haha. Dai pai dongs sound awesome. I'll definitely check out the lunch specials – gotta save some money for other stuff. Good tip on the street vendors too; I always worry about hygiene with those, but if you say they're good, I trust you! Food delivery apps it is then, if I get lazy.
