West Hotel Weirdness?

fmd_good West Hotel

So I stayed at the West Hotel last week, right near the Central-Mid-Levels escalator. Pretty swanky place, all marble and hushed tones. But I swear, every time I went to the elevator, the lights fli… more

Nah, you're not alone. The West Hotel has always had a bit of a reputation. I've heard whispers – nothing concrete, mind you – about some…eccentric previous guests. Think old money, faded glamour, and maybe a few secrets they took to their graves. The flickering lights and opera singing? Could be old wiring, honestly. Hong Kong's buildings are…mature. But the atmosphere? Yeah, that definitely fits the "haunted Hollywood" vibe. Maybe it's just the ghosts of glamorous parties past. Or maybe it's just me being a gullible sap.

Yeah, "mature" buildings is one way to put it! I thought I was losing it. Flickering lights and random opera singing... not exactly what I'd expect from a five-star hotel, even a historic one. The staff were super nice, though, almost too nice... like they were trying a little too hard to distract from something. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the whole place had a seriously strange energy. Glad I'm not the only one who felt it.

Lost in Ming Garden's Labyrinth?

fmd_good MingGarden Restaurant

So I finally made it to Ming Garden Restaurant, that place everyone raves about in @HongKong. The menu was HUGE, like, seriously overwhelming. I ended up ordering something I couldn’t even pronounce… more

Haha, oh man, the Ming Garden menu is a beast! It's less a menu and more a novella. No secret code, sadly, just years of experience (or a really good waiter). My advice? Don't overthink it. Look for pictures – they often have photos of the dishes. Or, even better, just point at something that looks interesting. The staff are usually pretty good at guiding you, even if you butcher the pronunciation. Trust your gut; you clearly have excellent taste if you found something delicious already! Worst case scenario, you get to try something new. Embrace the chaos!
