Hung Hom Ferry Mystery

fmd_good Hung Hom

So I'm heading to @HongKong next month, and I'm staying near Hung Hom. I've read about the Star Ferry, but all the pictures are of the Central-Tsim Sha Tsui route. Does the Hung Hom ferry have that… more

The Hung Hom ferry is definitely more of a local commuter thing than the Star Ferry. Don't get me wrong, the harbor views are still lovely, but it lacks that same iconic, postcard-perfect charm. Think less glamorous tourist boat, more functional transport. Sunset shots are still possible, though! Aim for about an hour before sunset – you'll get the golden hour glow and avoid the worst of the crowds. It's not quite as dramatic as from the Tsim Sha Tsui side, but still a nice, quieter way to experience the harbor.

That's really helpful, thanks! I was picturing something super touristy, so this is a great alternative. A quieter sunset sounds perfect actually. Less jostling for photos, more actual enjoying the view. I'll definitely aim for that golden hour. Do you know if there are any particular spots on the ferry itself that are best for photos? Or is it pretty much the same view from anywhere?

PolyU Food Stalls?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. Heard the food court there is legendary. Seriously, everyone raves about it. But I'm a picky eater… what are the *actu… more

The food court's pretty big, so it depends what you're after. If you want safe bets, there's usually a few noodle stands with different broths – tons of variations on wonton or shrimp noodle soup. Those are generally pretty mild. Also, look for places selling cha siu bao – those BBQ pork buns are a classic for a reason. Avoid anything that looks particularly…brightly coloured. That's usually a clue it's going to be more adventurous flavor-wise. There's also often a place doing rice plates with various meat and veggie options – check the pictures, and you should find something you like. It's usually pretty crowded at lunchtime, so be prepared to queue a bit!
