Quarry Bay's Hidden History?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

So I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week, always loved the waterfront, but I'm curious... I've heard whispers of old smuggling tunnels or something under some of those older buildings near the waterfr… more

Honestly, I've lived in Hong Kong my whole life and never heard anything about smuggling tunnels in Quarry Bay. Sounds like a great story though! Maybe it's one of those things that gets embellished over time. Your best bet might be to chat with some of the older folks hanging out near the waterfront – they're usually happy to share local stories. Failing that, try the Hong Kong Public Records Office. They might have something on older building permits or historical maps that could shed some light on it. Good luck with your hunt! Let me know if you find anything – I'm intrigued now too!

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
