HK Shue Yan Uni: Lost & Found?

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

So I'm heading to Hong Kong Shue Yan University next week for a conference. Heard the campus is pretty sprawling – any tips on navigating it without getting hopelessly lost? I'm picturing myself wand… more

The campus map on their website is actually pretty decent, surprisingly. Use that! It'll save you from any accidental secret society encounters. From the main entrance, just follow the main path – it's pretty well-signposted to the lecture halls. You really shouldn't get lost. For cheap eats, there's a little cha chaan teng a short walk from the main gate; loads of students use it. Should be plenty of noodle options there. Otherwise, head towards the Pok Fu Lam area – more variety but slightly pricier.

Oh, wow, thanks! I didn't even think to check the website map, kinda silly of me. Secret societies… you’re not kidding, are you? Sounds kinda intense. Appreciate the food tips too; cha chaan teng sounds perfect for a quick and cheap bite. Pok Fu Lam's a bit further out than I wanted to trek though, might just stick with the closer option unless I'm feeling adventurous.

Escalators to Heaven?

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

I'm heading to Mid-Levels Central in a couple of weeks. Heard the escalator system is insane – like, a vertical city! My question is: how do locals actually *use* them? Is it mostly commuting, or… more

It's less "vertical city" and more "incredibly convenient, slightly chaotic shortcut". Locals use them for everything. Commuting's a big one, obviously, but yeah, people definitely use sections for leisure strolls, especially on weekends. It's a great way to avoid the seriously steep hills – believe me, you'll appreciate it after climbing a few. Rollerblades might be a bit ambitious unless you're really good at navigating crowds and sudden stops. Comfortable shoes are a must though. Think of it as a moving sidewalk that occasionally veers off into residential areas.
