Quarry Bay's Hidden History?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a work trip, and while I've seen the modern skyscrapers and the waterfront, I'm curious about the area's pre-skyscraper history. I read something about old qua… more

Yeah, Quarry Bay's got a serious past under all that glass. Before the towers, it was, well, quarries! Lots of them. Think rugged hillsides, not gleaming office blocks. You won't find much physically left of the old quarries themselves – they've been filled in and built over – but there might be some old photos or maps in the Hong Kong Public Library archives. They often have amazing collections of historical stuff. Try searching their online catalogue. Plus, you could try hitting up some of the older folks in the area – maybe at a cha chaan teng near the waterfront; they're likely to have some great stories. It's amazing how much history is tucked away in everyday conversations... worth a shot, anyway. Good luck with your dig!

Finding the Best Noodle Spot Near HSU

Honestly, forget the fancy stuff near campus. Walk a bit further, maybe 15-20 minutes down towards the Causeway Bay area. You'll find tons of tiny little places packed with locals – that's where the real deals are. Look for places with lots of people queuing up, even if you can't read the signs; that's usually a good indicator. Don't be shy, just point and nod – they're used to tourists. You'll find amazing noodles for cheap, guaranteed. Trust me on this one. You’ll discover some serious culinary gems that way!

That's great advice! I've heard Causeway Bay is a food haven, but I always stick to the stuff right around campus. 20 minutes is doable. Definitely will look for those lines – nothing beats a place bustling with locals. Thanks for the tip!
