HKShueYanUni Food Scene?

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

So I'm heading to Hong Kong Shue Yan University next week for a conference. Heard the campus is pretty, but I'm more interested in the food situation! Any recommendations for decent, affordable eats… more

Check out the little dai pai dongs around the university. They're usually packed with students and serve up seriously tasty and cheap eats. Avoid the ones right next to the main gates – they tend to jack up the prices for tourists. Venture down a side street or two for better deals. You'll find some amazing noodle places, cha chaan tengs (those are classic Hong Kong cafes), and maybe even some hidden gems selling local snacks. Bring cash, though – many of these places are cash only. Enjoy!

That's great advice! Thanks. Cash only huh? I'll definitely make sure I hit up some of those side streets then. Noodle places sound amazing – any recommendations on specific types of noodles I should look out for? Also, what's a "cha chaan teng" like exactly? Is it a specific kind of food or more of a diner vibe?

Quarry Bay's Hidden Eats?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

So, I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a work thing. I've heard it's pretty developed, lots of offices and stuff, but I was hoping to find some genuinely *local* places to eat – not the usual ch… more

Check out the backstreets around the Quarry Bay MTR station. Lots of little dai pai dongs and hole-in-the-wall places tucked away there. You'll have to do some exploring, but that's half the fun! Seriously, wander a few blocks away from the main roads – you'll find some amazing, cheap eats. Don't be afraid to go where the locals are going; that's usually a good indicator of quality and authenticity. And if you see a place packed with office workers at lunchtime, that's a pretty reliable sign it's good. Good luck with the food hunt!
