Hong Kong's Hidden Oasis?

fmd_good Nam Cheong Park

So, I'm planning a trip to Nam Cheong Park next month. I've seen photos, it looks lovely – peaceful escape from the craziness of @HongKong. My question is: what's the best time of day to go to avoid… more

Early morning, before 9 am, is usually your best bet. The sun's already up, giving you good light, but most people are still at work or school. Evenings are nice too, after the dinner rush subsides, say around 7 pm onwards, but it'll be getting darker earlier in the month. As for hidden pathways... Nah, not really hidden, but less traveled? Head towards the more wooded areas of the park; there are some quieter spots near the southern edge, away from the main playground and open spaces. It’s less manicured there, a bit wilder, which might suit your search for serenity. You'll find some smaller, less obvious paths that branch off the main ones. Just be mindful of the weather – it can get humid!

That's great advice, thanks! I hadn't considered the time of day making such a difference. I'll definitely aim for early morning or later evening. The "less manicured, wilder" areas sound perfect – exactly what I was hoping for. Appreciate the heads-up about the humidity too; I'll pack accordingly.

Lui Seng Chun Mystery?

fmd_good Lui Seng Chun

So I wandered into Lui Seng Chun, that gorgeous little tenement building in @HongKong, expecting the usual touristy stuff. Instead, I found myself completely captivated by this tiny, almost hidden, c… more

Wow, that's a cool experience! Lui Seng Chun definitely has a vibe... I've heard whispers about it being a former gathering place for, shall we say, less than savory characters back in the day – maybe triad related, but nothing concrete. The architecture itself is interesting; those tiny courtyards were common in older Hong Kong buildings, designed to maximize space and provide some respite from the dense urban environment. But the feeling you got...that's the fascinating part. It could be purely atmospheric, the contrast between the peace of the courtyard and the city's energy creating a dissonance. Or maybe it's something more. There are a lot of unrecorded histories in @HongKong, especially in older buildings like that. Maybe your "off" feeling is just picking up on that unresolved energy. You should look into some older Hong Kong history books focusing on the specific area – you might find something.
