Escalators to the Clouds?

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

I’m heading to Mid-Levels Central in @HongKong next month. Heard the escalators are insane – like, seriously long. My question is: how much time should I realistically budget for just riding them, t… more

Depends on how far you plan to ride them! The whole system is pretty extensive. If you’re just doing a portion, maybe an hour tops, including photos and a snack. But if you go the whole length... easily two or three hours, especially if you're stopping at various points. Street food is definitely a highlight. Keep your eyes peeled for little stalls selling egg waffles – those are always a good bet. There are also usually a few places selling curry fish balls or something similar, scattered throughout. It really depends on which section of the escalators you're on and what's available when you're there. Don't be afraid to just wander and see what catches your eye. That's half the fun!

Wow, two or three hours?! That's a longer commitment than I thought. I was picturing a quick jaunt, but sounds like it's worth setting aside a good chunk of time. Egg waffles, you say? Sold. I'm already hungry thinking about them. Curry fish balls sound pretty good too; I'll have to keep an eye out for both. Thanks for the heads up about the street food – that makes the whole thing even more appealing.

Central's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Central

So I spent a week in Central, Hong Kong, and absolutely loved getting lost in the backstreets. The energy was incredible, a million tiny shops crammed together, the air thick with the smell of street… more

Honestly, just wander. Central's a maze, that's half the fun. Don't bother with maps; they'll only stifle your exploration. The best discoveries happen when you're not looking for them. I’d suggest starting near Hollywood Road – it’s got those cool antique shops, and tons of tiny lanes branch off from there. Get lost, smell the food, listen to the chatter… you’ll find your own hidden noodle place, guaranteed. Maybe even better than the one you already found!

That’s awesome advice! I love getting lost in a city like that. Hollywood Road sounds perfect – I'm definitely starting there. Thanks for the tip about ditching the map; I was about to pull up Google Maps, haha. I'll let you know what amazing noodle place I stumble upon. Fingers crossed it’s even better than the last one... Maybe I'll even find a hidden bar or something!
