Honestly? Probably just college kids with way too much time on their hands. Hong Kong's full of dramatic people; that's half the fun, right? But... there's always something. My advice? Keep your eyes peeled, listen more than you talk, and don't go around shouting "SECRET SOCIETY!" to everyone you meet. Blend in, observe. If it's real, it'll reveal itself eventually. If not, you'll have a good story to tell about your first semester. Maybe join a club or two, something seemingly unrelated. You never know what kind of connections you'll make that way. Good luck! Yeah, Union Square's got that. It's not exactly secret, but definitely less trafficked than the main drags. Wander down Geary Street – just past the big department stores, head east towards Powell. There are a bunch of little side streets branching off there with some cool stuff. You'll find it. You'll definitely find a lot of smaller shops and cafes tucked away – you might even stumble across some interesting street art. Don't be afraid to just get lost for a bit; that's half the fun.
