That's a really good point about the exaggeration – I hadn't thought of it that way. My cousin is a bit of a joker, so that's probably part of it. Thanks for the suggestion about local history books and forums. That's actually a much better approach than chasing ghosts! I'll definitely look into that for my trip to @HongKong.
