Shun Lee Tsuen Playground Conundrum

fmd_good Shun Lee Tsuen Playground

I'm heading to Shun Lee Tsuen Playground next week – my cousin raves about the view from the top of the hill behind it, says it's breathtaking at sunset. Problem is, he’s… vague. No directions, just… more

Honestly, "go up the hill" is pretty standard Hong Kong advice. There’s probably more than one path. Look for less-trodden trails branching off from the playground itself – usually, the more overgrown, the better the view (but watch out for snakes!). Download a map app like Google Maps before you go; it might show some faint trails not on official maps. If you see a bunch of locals heading uphill with tripods, you’re probably on the right track. Sunset’s beautiful, but the light can change fast, so don't dawdle.

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
