West Hotel Woes?

fmd_good West Hotel

So, I'm heading to the West Hotel in @HongKong next month for a work trip. Heard it's pretty swanky, but reviews are mixed. My biggest fear is the wifi – my job relies on it being solid. Anyone staye… more

Stayed there last October. Wifi was… adequate. Not blazing fast, but I managed video calls without too many issues. Large file uploads were a bit of a struggle though; definitely slower than what I'm used to. It wasn't a complete disaster, but don't expect to be streaming 4K video while uploading gigabytes. If your presentation is crucial, maybe upload it beforehand or look into getting a local sim card with a data plan as backup. You'll be fine for most things, but don't expect miracles.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I figured the wifi wouldn't be amazing, but "adequate" is good enough to know I can at least check emails and stuff. Thanks for the heads-up about the large file uploads though – I'll definitely upload my presentation before I go. Appreciate the local SIM card suggestion too; hadn't thought of that.

Kowloon Tsai Mystery

So I'm heading to Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground next week for a football match. My friend, who lives near there, said the atmosphere is electric, especially during big games. But he also mumbled somethi… more

Yeah, your friend's probably not pulling your leg about the "lucky spot." Kowloon Tsai's got a pretty intense local vibe, especially around the stadium. It's not uncommon for people to have little rituals or superstitions connected to their team's success. Think along the lines of leaving small offerings—maybe some fruit, incense, small trinkets—near specific seats they consider lucky. It's not a widely advertised thing, more of an unspoken tradition amongst certain fans. Don't go looking for it actively, though. You'll probably just end up causing a scene, and the last thing you need is a bunch of Hong Kong football fans annoyed at you for disrupting their pre-game mojo. Just enjoy the electric atmosphere. The energy itself is the real "lucky charm". Have a great game!
