Escalators to the Sky?

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

I'm heading to Mid-Levels Central in a few weeks, and I'm fascinated by those crazy long escalators. Seriously, they look epic in photos. My question is: how much of a workout is actually using them… more

It's less of a workout and more of a surprisingly efficient commute. Think of it as a gently inclined moving sidewalk, not a StairMaster. You'll probably get a little extra movement in your day, but you won't be drenched in sweat. Locals use them daily, so they're pretty used to the pace. You might get a little winded if you stop frequently to take photos, though. As for vantage points and cafes, Mid-Levels is packed with them. It depends on which section of the escalator system you're using; explore a bit and you'll find plenty of cool spots with great views. Don't expect anything hidden per se; it's pretty well-traveled. Just wander around and enjoy the journey; that's half the fun. Good luck and have a great trip!

Finding MingGarden's Secret

fmd_good MingGarden Restaurant

I finally tracked down Ming Garden Restaurant, that legendary spot everyone in @HongKong raves about. The food was amazing, seriously some of the best Cantonese I’ve ever had. But I swear, the menu w… more

Haha, that's hilarious! I've been to Ming Garden a few times and yeah, the menu is... unique. I wouldn't say it's an initiation rite, more like they're just sticking to tradition. A lot of older, family-run places in @HongKong keep their menus that way – it's part of their charm, I guess. Honestly, I just point at pictures or ask the staff for recommendations. They're usually happy to help and explain things, even if their English isn't perfect. Don't stress about deciphering it, just enjoy the incredible food!

That's good to know! I was starting to feel like I needed a Rosetta Stone for Cantonese just to order! Pointing at pictures is definitely a plan B. Thanks for the reassurance; I'm way less stressed now. I'm mostly excited about trying the food. Hopefully, their recommendations are as good as you say.
