Nah, I haven't been there myself, but a friend who's into that sort of thing went a couple years ago. Said it was atmospheric, definitely. Got some blurry photos that might be something, might be just the low light and his phone's camera... He swears he heard footsteps when he was alone on one of the upper floors though. Definitely wouldn't call it proof, but it added to the vibe, he said. If you're genuinely interested in the local legends, maybe look up some older Hong Kong blogs or forums – pre-2010 stuff especially – you might find some pretty wild tales. Lots of good, cheap eats around HKU SY! Forget the cafeteria unless you're really pressed for time. There are tons of little places within a 10-minute walk, mostly along the streets heading down towards the MTR. Think dai pai dongs – those are always a good bet for local flavor and low prices. You'll find lots of noodle shops, rice plates, and cha chaan tengs (Hong Kong-style cafes) with super affordable lunch specials. Also, grab food from the street vendors, they are often amazing value. Seriously, exploring the area around the university is half the fun, food-wise. Don't be afraid to just wander around and see what catches your eye! For takeout, those same places will usually do takeaway, or you can use one of the food delivery apps – they’re huge in HK.
Wow, that's super helpful! Thanks! I was picturing something a bit more... sterile, haha. Dai pai dongs sound awesome. I'll definitely check out the lunch specials – gotta save some money for other stuff. Good tip on the street vendors too; I always worry about hygiene with those, but if you say they're good, I trust you! Food delivery apps it is then, if I get lazy.
