Try the little dai pai dong on Java Road near the park. It's not exactly hidden, but it's definitely off the main drag and most tourists don't stumble upon it. Seriously good, cheap noodles – the kind that'll make you want to slap your mama. And yeah, they've got local beer. Don't expect fancy, just expect delicious and authentic. You won't be disappointed.

Hah, the Mid-Levels staircases are a trip! I once stumbled upon a guy practicing Tai Chi...at 3 AM. Completely unexpected, and kinda unnerving in the pre-dawn gloom. Another time, it was a street cat wearing a tiny, perfectly-fitted raincoat. Seriously. No joke. You'll find way more than just tea houses, trust me. Prepare for the unexpected. And maybe bring a flashlight.
