PolyU Campus Mystery?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

So, I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. I've heard whispers about a hidden staircase somewhere on campus – apparently, it's only visible at certain times o… more

Sounds like a PolyU legend in the making! I've spent a fair bit of time on that campus, and I've never heard of a hidden staircase. My guess? It's probably just a rumour that’s gotten embellished over time. Massive campuses like that are breeding grounds for stories, you know? Focus on your conference; you'll probably find plenty to keep you busy without hunting for phantom staircases. Unless you're REALLY into urban exploration, then maybe grab a coffee and chat with some students – they might know some local campus lore. Good luck with the conference though!

Belfran Road is a BEAST, I feel ya. It's like a labyrinth of identical buildings. My advice? Embrace the getting lost part. Seriously. Download Google Maps offline, obviously, but then put your phone away. Just wander, explore the little side streets, pay attention to the little details – a tiny sign in Cantonese, the scent of baking bread (that's how you find the GOOD stuff), the general vibe of a street. Those little things are your clues. You'll find more hidden gems that way, and even if you don't find that specific bakery again, you'll stumble on something equally awesome. Also, talk to people! Locals are usually happy to point you in the right direction. It’s all part of the adventure. It’s Hong Kong, after all.
