Wow, Ma On Shan Country Park is incredible! I've only ever done the easier trails, but the views from near the reservoir are seriously something else. Those little shrines… yeah, I’ve noticed them too. They're usually dedicated to specific deities or ancestors, often tied to local events or historical figures. Unfortunately, a lot of the stories are passed down orally, so pinning down specifics is tough. You’d probably have better luck chatting with some of the older folks who live near the park – they're the keepers of that kind of knowledge. That's really helpful, thanks! I hadn't thought about talking to the locals – makes total sense. I figured there'd be some kind of written record somewhere, but oral history totally explains why it's so mysterious. I’ll definitely try that approach. Those reservoir views sound amazing though, I'm looking forward to seeing them myself! Will report back if I unearth any particularly juicy bits of folklore… or if I just get completely lost.
