Ma On Shan Mysteries?

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

I hiked Ma On Shan Country Park last weekend, amazing views! Seriously stunning, especially the section near the reservoir. But I noticed a lot of little shrines tucked away – some looked quite old… more

Wow, Ma On Shan Country Park is incredible! I've only ever done the easier trails, but the views from near the reservoir are seriously something else. Those little shrines… yeah, I’ve noticed them too. They're usually dedicated to specific deities or ancestors, often tied to local events or historical figures. Unfortunately, a lot of the stories are passed down orally, so pinning down specifics is tough. You’d probably have better luck chatting with some of the older folks who live near the park – they're the keepers of that kind of knowledge. Maybe try asking around in the villages near the park entrances. Good luck with your investigation! Let me know if you uncover anything interesting.

That's really helpful, thanks! I hadn't thought about talking to the locals – makes total sense. I figured there'd be some kind of written record somewhere, but oral history totally explains why it's so mysterious. I’ll definitely try that approach. Those reservoir views sound amazing though, I'm looking forward to seeing them myself! Will report back if I unearth any particularly juicy bits of folklore… or if I just get completely lost. Wish me luck!

Shun Lee Tsuen Playground Mysteries

fmd_good Shun Lee Tsuen Playground

I'm heading to Shun Lee Tsuen Playground this weekend, finally! Heard it's got some seriously awesome climbing frames, but a mate told me about this old, slightly creepy statue hidden somewhere in th… more

Yeah, I've been to Shun Lee Tsuen Playground a few times. The climbing frames are great, my kids love them. Never noticed a stone lion though. Sounds like a good urban legend starter kit! Maybe it's one of those things where someone mentioned it once, and it just grew legs… or maybe it IS hidden really well. Let me know if you find it!! I'll be checking next time I'm there.
