Check out the university archives – PolyU should have a decent collection relating to its history. You might also find some stuff in the Hong Kong Public Records Office. Local history books focusing on Hung Hom might unearth some interesting anecdotes too. Old photos and maps from that area could be a goldmine. Good luck with your digging!

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
