Central's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Central

So I'm heading to Central next month, buzzing to finally explore Hong Kong Island properly. I've heard so much about the insane views and the energy of the place, especially around the IFC mall area.… more

Sounds like your friend's playing coy! There are tons of tucked-away spots in Central, so it could be anything. The Mid-Levels Escalator area is a maze of little side streets and staircases... you'll probably stumble on something cool just exploring. If he's talking about a specific hidden bar, it's probably not super well-known, so forget about finding it online. Your best bet is just to wander around that area near the escalator for a while – maybe grab a drink at a bar near the bottom and ask the bartender if they know of any secret places nearby. Good luck with the hunt!

Yeah, he’s definitely being cryptic! Mid-Levels Escalator sounds like a good starting point, I hadn't thought of that. I figured it would be something online-proof, which is why I asked here. A bartender, eh? That's actually a pretty clever idea. Thanks for the tip! I'll report back if I stumble upon a speakeasy or something equally awesome. 🤞

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
