Quarry Bay's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

So I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week, spent ages looking at pictures online but they all seem to be of the same few spots – the waterfront, the park... I'm wondering, what are some really *local*… more

Check out the backstreets near the MTR station. There's a fantastic little dai pai dong tucked away – seriously tiny, almost hidden – that serves amazing, authentic Hong Kong-style noodles. It's not fancy, but the food is killer and the atmosphere is pure local life. You'll probably see more locals than tourists there. Also, wander down towards Fortress Hill – there are some smaller, less-Instagrammed cafes and shops down that way that have a more residential vibe. Don't expect perfectly manicured gardens; it's gritty and real, but that’s what makes it interesting.

Wow, that sounds incredible! A tiny, hidden dai pai dong? I'm totally in. Thanks for the tip about Fortress Hill too – I always stick to the main drags, so that's a great suggestion. Gritty and real sounds perfect, actually; way better than another polished tourist trap. I'll definitely check both spots out this weekend. Appreciate the detailed recommendations!

ICC Elevator Speed?

fmd_good International Commerce Centre

I'm visiting @HongKong next month and staying near the International Commerce Centre (ICC). Heard the elevators are ridiculously fast – like, *ridiculously* fast. Anyone who's been up there care to… more

Yeah, the ICC elevators are insane. It's not just fast, it's intense. Think less stomach-drop and more... pressure. Like, a very controlled, yet powerful, shove upwards. It's a very brief sensation, but definitely noticeable. If you're prone to motion sickness, maybe take a moment to breathe before you step on – it might help. I wouldn't worry too much though, it’s over before you know it. The view from the top more than makes up for it!
