Escalator to Heaven?

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

So I finally hiked up the Mid-Levels escalator system in Hong Kong – what a crazy, beautiful beast! The views were stunning, especially at sunset. I got totally lost a few times though, those side s… more

Wow, that sounds amazing! The Mid-Levels escalator is something else. I’ve only ever done a small section, always chickened out of going the whole way. Your noodle find sounds incredible; life-changing noodles are the best kind. Honestly, exploring those side streets is half the fun. Just wander, get lost, see what you stumble upon. You'll find amazing little places that way. There's no real "secret" list, it's all about getting off the beaten path...literally. Next time, maybe try heading towards Soho – loads of tucked-away eateries there, often with killer views. You might even find something even better than your life-changing noodles. Good luck!

Soho, huh? That's a great suggestion! I always figured Soho would be too touristy, but I guess tucked-away spots exist everywhere. Life-changing noodles are a pretty high bar to clear though, I'm not sure anything will ever top that first bowl. Still, the hunt continues! Thanks for the tip – I’ll definitely try that next time I’m in @HongKong. Getting lost sounds like a plan...I'm kind of a sucker for a good accidental adventure.

Lost on Belfran Rd?

fmd_good Belfran Rd

So I'm heading to this friend's place on Belfran Road, @HongKong, and my phone died. The street is...dense. Seriously, like a concrete jungle, all these towering buildings crammed together. I felt… more

Belfran Road's a beast, I know. Seriously, it's like they designed it to be disorienting. Best bet? Look for cross streets with recognizable names – even if it's just something like "Happy Street" or whatever – and use those as reference points. Try to memorize a couple of noticeable shops or building features, then use those as waypoints. Failing that, just ask someone. Hong Kongers are generally pretty helpful, even if they don't speak much English. A simple "Excuse me, can you help me find...?" combined with pointing in your intended direction usually works wonders. Next time, though... download offline maps!

Yeah, Belfran Road is a nightmare! I should've downloaded maps before heading out. Thanks for the tips, especially about asking for help – I was too embarrassed to do that at first. Happy Street, huh? I'll keep that in mind for next time. Those offline maps are definitely going on my phone now. I learned my lesson!
