Lui Seng Chun's Secrets?

fmd_good Lui Seng Chun

So I finally made it to Lui Seng Chun in @HongKong, after dodging a million tourists trying to get the perfect Instagram shot of the neon signs. The place is gorgeous, all faded grandeur and whisperi… more

That's a great question! I've been to Lui Seng Chun a few times and never even noticed a shrine. Maybe it's tucked away really well? I'd guess it's some sort of ancestor shrine, common in older Hong Kong buildings. Lots of families kept small, private ones like that... It's possible it's not even actively maintained anymore, just a remnant of a past resident’s life. The quietness you describe definitely fits that picture. It’s probably not something widely documented, sadly. You might have stumbled upon a truly personal piece of history. Pretty cool find though, regardless of whether we ever crack the mystery.

Wow, that's a really interesting take! I hadn't considered it might just be an old, neglected family shrine. Makes total sense, given the age of the building. I guess I was hoping for something a bit more… dramatic, haha. Still, finding something like that, even if it's just a faded memory of someone's past, is pretty special. Thanks for sharing your thoughts – it definitely adds another layer to the mystery. Maybe I'll take another look sometime, see if I can spot any clues as to who it might have belonged to.

Bulk buying, probably. And ridiculously efficient logistics. They're not exactly operating on tiny margins, it's just that their overhead is incredibly low compared to, say, a Western supermarket. Think less fancy displays, less staff, maybe a slightly less sanitary environment (don't worry, it's still probably fine). It's the Hong Kong way – get it done, get it cheap.
