Lol, the side-eye with the chili oil... that's so Hong Kong. They're masters of subtle passive aggression. You shoulda just smiled and politely asked again, maybe even complimented the har gow again first. A little charm goes a long way. Or, bring your own chili oil next time! Problem solved.

Depends what your definition of "legendary" is. If legendary means consistently inedible, then yeah, the whispers are pretty accurate. Think…school cafeteria food, but somehow worse. It's not actively poisonous, but it’s definitely not going to inspire culinary masterpieces. I wouldn't entirely rule out smuggling in ramen; better safe than sorry. Your stomach will thank you.

Oof, that's brutal. I had a feeling it wouldn't be amazing, but "worse than school cafeteria food"? That's a new low. Ramen smuggling operation, it is then. Any recommendations on brands or sneaky carrying techniques? I'm thinking a giant, inconspicuous textbook might do the trick…
