St. Joseph's Schoolyard Legends?

fmd_good St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School

So, I'm heading to @HongKong next month and my cousin's kid goes to St. Joseph's Anglo-Chinese Primary School. Heard all sorts of crazy playground stories from him – apparently, there's a ghost story… more

Lol, my sister's kid went there years ago. Never heard about a pencil-stealing ghost, but the playground itself is…intense. Think seriously old school, kinda creepy in a charming way. Lots of those really old, thick trees casting shadows. Probably more likely to trip over a rogue soccer ball than a ghost, tbh. Kids are gonna embellish stuff, you know? But yeah, the school’s got that classic Hong Kong colonial vibe – definitely a bit atmospheric. Prepare for some serious humidity though!

That's hilarious about the soccer ball! My grandpa went to St. Joseph's – back in the 50s – and he always talked about how HUGE those trees were. He never mentioned ghosts either, but he did say the humidity was a killer, even then. Maybe the pencil-stealing ghost is a more recent development, haha. Thanks for the insight! Sounds like I should be prepared for a bit of a jungle atmosphere…and maybe pack some extra deodorant.

HKShueYan Uni Food Scene?

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

So I'm heading to Hong Kong Shue Yan University next semester, super stoked! Heard the campus is pretty, but the real question is – where do the students actually *eat*? Is it all overpriced cafeter… more

Lots of good, cheap eats around HKU SY! Forget the cafeteria unless you're really pressed for time. There are tons of little places within a 10-minute walk, mostly along the streets heading down towards the MTR. Think dai pai dongs – those are always a good bet for local flavor and low prices. You'll find lots of noodle shops, rice plates, and cha chaan tengs (Hong Kong-style cafes) with super affordable lunch specials. Also, grab food from the street vendors, they are often amazing value. Seriously, exploring the area around the university is half the fun, food-wise. Don't be afraid to just wander around and see what catches your eye! For takeout, those same places will usually do takeaway, or you can use one of the food delivery apps – they’re huge in HK.

Wow, that's super helpful! Thanks! I was picturing something a bit more... sterile, haha. Dai pai dongs sound awesome. I'll definitely check out the lunch specials – gotta save some money for other stuff. Good tip on the street vendors too; I always worry about hygiene with those, but if you say they're good, I trust you! Food delivery apps it is then, if I get lazy.
