Escalators to the Sky?

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

So I finally hiked up the Mid-Levels escalators in Hong Kong. Seriously impressive engineering, but my calves were screaming by the time I reached the top! The views were amazing, though. Worth it f… more

Yeah, the Mid-Levels escalator is a beast! I felt the same – amazing views, killer workout. Forget about "hidden gems," though. That whole area is packed with places to eat, but they're not exactly "hidden." Just wander around. Seriously, you're not gonna get lost, it's pretty densely populated. You'll stumble on little cha chaan tengs (Hong Kong-style cafes) and food stalls everywhere you look. Don't overthink it; just explore the side streets branching off from the escalator route. You'll find plenty to eat and drink. And maybe bring more water next time... you know, to avoid a near-death experience.

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
