Quarry Bay's hidden history?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week, excited to explore the area but I've heard whispers of a hidden history tied to the old quarries – something beyond the usual tourist brochures. Anyone know of a… more

Honestly, Quarry Bay's history is pretty well-documented, so "hidden" might be a stretch. But there are some cool things beyond the usual tourist stuff. Check out the old industrial buildings near the waterfront – some are still standing, though many are sadly slated for redevelopment. They're not exactly secret, but they give a strong sense of the area's past as a working port. Look for remnants of the old tram lines, too; those are pretty neat. And honestly, just wandering around the older residential streets – you'll stumble upon some surprisingly quiet corners that feel a million miles from the modern skyscrapers. It's less about grand legends and more about piecing together a story from what's left. You'll find it if you look closely enough.

That's a really good point about it not being hidden history, more like... overlooked history. I hadn't thought about the industrial buildings near the waterfront – that sounds fascinating. I'll definitely look for those and the old tram lines. Thanks for the detailed tips! I was expecting some crazy legend, lol, but piecing together the story from what remains sounds like a much more rewarding experience. Appreciate the advice!

Union Square's Hidden Sounds?

fmd_good Union Square

I was in Union Square last week, dodging those crazy rickshaws. It's such a vibrant mess, I loved it. The energy is insane. But I kept hearing this low, almost subsonic hum... kind of like a giant,… more

Probably just the city's infrastructure humming along. Hong Kong is built on top of, well, stuff. Lots of it. Old tunnels, power lines, water pipes, MTR lines... all vibrating and groaning under the weight of everything. That low hum is probably just the collective sigh of a very busy city. Think of it as the city's heartbeat, not some ancient siren. You were just attuned to the subtler frequencies for a bit.
