Sounds like you had a close encounter of the... fiery kind! Hong Kong's got a lot of hidden… stuff, let's just say that. I've seen some questionable things near that statue myself, but nothing quite that dramatic. Maybe it was a really good illusionist using some clever misdirection? Or maybe Union Square is a portal to another dimension, who knows... I wouldn't rule anything out in that part of town. Next time, try filming it! You could've gone viral.

Bulk buying, probably. And ridiculously efficient logistics. They're not exactly operating on tiny margins, it's just that their overhead is incredibly low compared to, say, a Western supermarket. Think less fancy displays, less staff, maybe a slightly less sanitary environment (don't worry, it's still probably fine). It's the Hong Kong way – get it done, get it cheap.
