Belfran Rd Mystery?

fmd_good Belfran Rd

So I'm planning a trip to Hong Kong and stumbled across this Belfran Road. Looks pretty residential, right? The thing is, all the online photos are...bland. Just rows of buildings. My friend, a Ho… more

Yeah, Belfran Road isn't exactly a postcard-perfect spot. It's pretty low-key. My grandma used to live near there – back in the 70s, it was way more lively. Apparently, there was a thriving street market that spilled onto the road itself, selling everything from knock-off watches to ridiculously cheap dumplings. Supposedly, some of the older buildings were used for storage by some pretty shady characters… you know, the kind who might have had… ahem… less-than-legal side hustles. The garden thing your friend mentioned? Probably some small community plot that got paved over long ago. Hong Kong changes so fast, things disappear in a blink. Don't go expecting some mystical secret though. It's more about imagining what it used to be like than finding some hidden treasure.

PolyU Food Stalls?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

So I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. Heard the food court there is legendary...seriously, people rave about it. My question is: what's the absolute BEST… more

The food court's pretty vast, so it's tough to pinpoint the absolute best. But if you want to dodge the crowds and get something truly authentic, head to the smaller stalls tucked away – usually on the less trafficked levels. Look for places with mostly local students. They often have daily specials written in Chinese, which is a good sign. Don't be afraid to point and ask – many vendors speak some English, and even if they don't, a little charades goes a long way. You'll probably find some amazing noodle soups or rice dishes that aren't on any tourist menu. Just go with your gut – if the place is busy with students, it's probably good!
