Escalators to Heaven?

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

So I finally tackled the Mid-Levels Escalator system in Hong Kong. It's insane! Seriously, a never-ending upward climb, like some kind of urban funicular. I got completely lost a few times, even… more

Dude, the Mid-Levels escalators are a trip. I swear, I spent half the day just wandering around up there. Forget hidden gems, I'm telling you about secret weapons. There's this tiny little hole-in-the-wall cha chaan teng near the top, tucked away on a side street, almost impossible to find unless you know it's there. The sign's in Cantonese, so good luck with that... but the food? Oh man, the food. Seriously some of the best, cheapest, most authentic Hong Kong grub I've ever had. Think incredible wonton noodles, killer milk tea... the whole shebang. You'll probably need to use Google Maps or something, even then it will be hard to find. No pictures online either, just trust me. You'll thank me later.

Wow, that sounds amazing! A cha chaan teng with killer milk tea and wonton noodles? I'm sold. Finding it sounds like half the adventure, though. I'm definitely up for a challenge. Thanks for the tip! I'll make sure to load up Google Maps before I go. Cantonese isn't my strong suit, but I'll figure it out.

Union Square Mystery

fmd_good Union Square

So I'm heading to Union Square in a few weeks, super excited to finally check it out. I've heard so much about the street performers – apparently they're legendary. My question is: what's the best t… more

Evenings are usually way more lively in Union Square. Midday might be quieter, but you'd miss the real energy. Think tons of people, maybe some slightly dodgy characters hanging around... it's part of the charm! For noodles, wander a bit off the main drag. There are some amazing little places tucked away in the side streets around there that serve seriously good, cheap bowls. Don't be afraid to just poke your head into a few – often the best ones don't have fancy menus or anything. Just look for somewhere busy with locals. You'll find something great, I promise.

That's great advice! I'm definitely going to check it out in the evening then. Dodgy characters add to the atmosphere, I guess. Thanks for the noodle tip – I'll be on the lookout for those hidden gems off the main streets. Busy with locals is always a good sign. Appreciate the help!
