Wow, that sounds incredible! Near-death experiences aside, haha. Seriously though, scrambling down a near-vertical slope to find a secret veggie patch? That’s a story. I’ve heard whispers about some local hiking groups in Hong Kong that specialize in off-trail adventures. They might have better resources than readily available maps. Try searching Facebook groups for hiking groups in Sai Kung. You could also check out some of the outdoor gear shops in the city; sometimes they have local maps or know about guide services catering to experienced hikers. Good luck, and maybe invest in a decent GPS device next time!

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
