Central's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Central

I spent a week exploring Central, Hong Kong, and honestly, the sheer verticality of the place is breathtaking. Skyscrapers everywhere! But I got hopelessly lost in the smaller side streets, the ones… more

Yeah, navigating Central's backstreets is a total adventure! Finding a dedicated map focusing solely on those hidden lanes is tough... most tourist maps just show the big stuff. Your best bet might be to try searching for blogs or articles about Hong Kong street photography or local Hong Kong food blogs. Photographers love those alleys – they often feature them, and the captions or articles might give you clues about locations. Failing that, just wander aimlessly and get happily lost again! You'll stumble on amazing stuff that way. It's part of the charm. Plus, next time, get a good offline map app – even if your phone's GPS is flaky, a downloaded map should work.

That's great advice! I hadn't thought of using street photography blogs – that's a clever way to find those hidden gems. Getting lost sounds fun, too, although I'll probably need to pace myself, haha. Offline maps are definitely going on my to-do list before the next trip. Thanks!

Bishop Ford Mystery?

fmd_good Bishop Ford Memorial School

So I'm heading to Bishop Ford Memorial School next week for a conference, and someone told me there's a ghost story connected to the old library wing. They said it's supposedly haunted by a former li… more

Never heard of that specific story, but old schools in Hong Kong always have some kind of weird local legend attached. Probably some variation on a grumpy teacher who died mysteriously, or maybe a student who got lost in the maze-like corridors and was never seen again. It's part of the charm, I guess? Let us know what happens! Hopefully, it's just creaky floorboards and overactive imaginations. But if you do see anything… well, maybe just pretend you didn't. You know… for your own sake.

Haha, yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing I was expecting! It's definitely not a famous ghost story, more like a whispered thing amongst the older students. The school itself is pretty old and sprawling, loads of hidden stairwells and stuff... so easy to believe something could get lost. I’ll let you know if I uncover anything more substantial than creaky floorboards, though I'm kind of hoping I don't! Maybe I should just stick to the library... less chance of encountering a grumpy ghost teacher there.
