Finding the best dim sum

fmd_good Central

So, I'm heading to Central in a few weeks, buzzing to finally experience the legendary Hong Kong dim sum scene. Heard it's insane – carts rolling around, endless choices... But, I’m worried about ge… more

Central's great for dim sum! Skip the super-touristy spots near the Peak Tram – you'll pay a premium for average food. Instead, wander a bit further afield. Look for places packed with locals – that's usually a good sign. Don't be afraid to just pop your head in and check out the menu and the atmosphere. Lung King Heen (Michelin-starred, obviously pricey but an experience) is a classic, but if you want something more casual, explore the smaller restaurants in Sheung Wan or even Mong Kok (it’s a bit further out but worth it for the incredible variety). Ordering? Just point! Seriously. Most places have pictures, and if not, mimicking the actions of others around you works wonders. Don't worry about butchering Cantonese – a smile and enthusiastic pointing are universal languages in a dim sum place. Have fun with it! It’s all part of the experience. Enjoy!

Quarry Bay's Hidden Eats?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

So, I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a work thing. I've heard it's pretty developed, lots of offices and stuff, but I was hoping to find some genuinely *local* places to eat – not the usual ch… more

Check out the backstreets around the Quarry Bay MTR station. Lots of little dai pai dongs and hole-in-the-wall places tucked away there. You'll have to do some exploring, but that's half the fun! Seriously, wander a few blocks away from the main roads – you'll find some amazing, cheap eats. Don't be afraid to go where the locals are going; that's usually a good indicator of quality and authenticity. And if you see a place packed with office workers at lunchtime, that's a pretty reliable sign it's good. Good luck with the food hunt!
