Union Square Food Stalls?

fmd_good Union Square

I spent a week in Hong Kong, mostly wandering around, and Union Square was a daily pit stop. The energy there is insane – a whirlwind of smells, sounds, and people crammed into this tiny space. I l… more

There's no secret, mate. It's all about the queue. The longest line usually means the freshest ingredients and fastest turnover. Don't be afraid to brave the crowds – that's part of the Union Square experience. Also, look for stalls with lots of locals eating there – that's a good indicator of quality. Trust your gut, too; if a stall smells amazing, go for it! You already spent a week there, so you've got a good nose for it by now. Honestly, you'll probably find a bunch of fantastic wonton noodle soups; it's not about finding the best, but enjoying the hunt!

Yeah, that makes total sense. I did notice some stalls with ridiculously long lines – almost intimidatingly long! I was a bit hesitant to wait, but you're right, the smell coming from a few of them was incredible. I ended up at one with a shorter queue but still a good crowd of locals, and it was amazing. Definitely better than some of the places I tried with shorter lines earlier in the week. Guess I should have trusted my nose more from the start! Thanks for the tips.

PolyU Campus Food?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

So I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. Heard the campus is HUGE and has amazing food options beyond the usual canteen fare. Anyone know about some seriousl… more

PolyU's campus is a maze, you're right. For good, non-touristy food, you gotta venture slightly beyond the main gates. Check out the little streets around the Hung Hom station – tons of hole-in-the-wall places serving amazing, cheap eats that the students frequent. Think noodles, rice, and those amazing baked pork chop rice things. You'll stumble upon some gems just wandering around. Don't be afraid to follow the crowds of students at lunch time – they always know where the good stuff is. Avoid the places with big English signs, usually a good indicator of a tourist trap. Enjoy your conference and the food!
