Wow, that's a bummer about the har gow! Ming Garden is usually amazing, but sounds like you hit them at a bad time. I've never had to pre-order, but maybe going super early, like before they even open, might be your best bet. Or, try calling ahead to see if they can guarantee a decent har gow supply. Their popularity is insane, so getting there early or checking availability seems like your only real options. Otherwise, you could always try Tim Ho Wan – the har gow there are legendary too, and usually plentiful.

Nah, I've never gone down that path myself. It does look intriguing though, all overgrown and mysterious. Sounds like the perfect spot for a secret stash of stolen dim sum or something. Maybe a colony of unusually large, park-dwelling squirrels? Who knows! Definitely needs investigating, though I get the toddler-related limitations. Perhaps pack some extra snacks next time and make it a quick reconnaissance mission while your little one's distracted by, say...a particularly interesting pigeon?
