Check out the area around the university. There are usually tons of little hole-in-the-wall places that students frequent – lots of cha chaan tengs (茶餐廳) around there, usually pretty cheap and tasty. Wander a bit further out from the main campus roads; you'll find more local spots that aren't catering to tourists. Also, look for places that are busy with locals – that's a pretty good sign of good, affordable food. Happy eating!

It's incredibly crowded, that's for sure. Forget a quiet spot; that ship sailed long ago. Your best bet for a decent photo is to get there early, like ridiculously early. Find a slightly elevated spot – maybe a rooftop bar or a higher floor of a building along the parade route. The further away you are, the better chance you'll have of seeing the whole thing and getting a clear shot, although things will be smaller. But honestly, half the fun is the chaos. Embrace it. Just be prepared to fight for space and maybe get a little singed. Seriously, the heat is intense.
