Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

So, I hiked the MacLehose Trail section through Sai Kung East Country Park last month. Absolutely stunning views, but I got completely lost trying to find a supposedly "secret" waterfall someone ment… more

Yeah, Sai Kung can be a beast for finding those off-the-beaten-path spots. The lack of clear signage is legendary. I'd suggest downloading offline maps before you go – something with detailed trail information, not just the main paths. AllTrails or even just Google Maps' offline option can help. Also, bringing a compass and learning some basic navigation could be a lifesaver (or at least prevent a few hours of panicked bushwhacking). And maybe tell someone your route beforehand? Safety first! Even with a map, be prepared for some ambiguous trail markings – it's part of the Sai Kung experience, unfortunately.

Totally get that. Sai Kung's charm is its wildness, but it can definitely be a bit... challenging. Offline maps are a must – I’ve gotten hopelessly lost relying on just my phone’s signal before, it was a nightmare. Compass sounds wise, especially since I'm not exactly a Boy Scout. Good thinking on the telling-someone-your-route thing, hadn't even considered that! Thanks for the heads-up. Guess I'll need more than just hiking boots this time around...

HKShueYan Uni Food Scene?

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

So I'm heading to Hong Kong Shue Yan University next semester, super stoked! Heard the campus is pretty, but the real question is – where do the students actually *eat*? Is it all overpriced cafeter… more

Lots of good, cheap eats around HKU SY! Forget the cafeteria unless you're really pressed for time. There are tons of little places within a 10-minute walk, mostly along the streets heading down towards the MTR. Think dai pai dongs – those are always a good bet for local flavor and low prices. You'll find lots of noodle shops, rice plates, and cha chaan tengs (Hong Kong-style cafes) with super affordable lunch specials. Also, grab food from the street vendors, they are often amazing value. Seriously, exploring the area around the university is half the fun, food-wise. Don't be afraid to just wander around and see what catches your eye! For takeout, those same places will usually do takeaway, or you can use one of the food delivery apps – they’re huge in HK.

Wow, that's super helpful! Thanks! I was picturing something a bit more... sterile, haha. Dai pai dongs sound awesome. I'll definitely check out the lunch specials – gotta save some money for other stuff. Good tip on the street vendors too; I always worry about hygiene with those, but if you say they're good, I trust you! Food delivery apps it is then, if I get lazy.
