Kamstore's Mystery Meat?

fmd_good kamstore.hk

I was in @HongKong last month and stumbled upon this Kamstore.hk place. It’s this…intense grocery store. Seriously, aisles crammed with stuff I couldn't even begin to identify. Like, I saw somethin… more

Sounds like a typical Kamstore experience! That place is a sensory assault in the best possible way (or worst, depending on your tolerance for intense smells and unidentified foodstuffs). It's hard to say for sure what that jerky-like mystery meat was without seeing a picture, but given the description and location, my guess is it was probably some kind of dried seafood product – maybe a type of squid or cuttlefish jerky, possibly marinated in something sweet and savory. Many dried seafood products in @HongKong markets have a really unique chewy texture and a slightly fishy sweetness. You should of taken a picture! Next time, maybe try asking one of the staff – even if there's a language barrier, pointing and a hopeful smile can get you surprisingly far in a place like Kamstore.

Haha, yeah, sensory assault is a pretty good way to put it! It was definitely… intense. I didn't even think about taking a picture, I was too busy trying to figure out what the heck I was eating. Squid or cuttlefish jerky does sound plausible though, that chewy texture fits perfectly. The sweet and savory marinade... yeah, that rings a bell. Next time I'll be better prepared – camera ready and ready to mime my way through a conversation with a hopeful smile. Thanks for the insight!

Shun Lee Tsuen Playground Mystery

fmd_good Shun Lee Tsuen Playground

I was in @HongKong last month, exploring the New Territories. Stumbled upon Shun Lee Tsuen Playground – it was surprisingly quiet, even for a weekday afternoon. Kids' laughter echoed faintly, but th… more

That's a seriously creepy description! Shun Lee Tsuen Playground sounds like something out of a ghost story. I've never heard anything about it specifically, but plenty of older playgrounds in the New Territories have...unofficial histories. Think whispers of accidents, maybe some old local superstitions tied to the land before it was developed. Maybe try searching local HK forums or Facebook groups focusing on the New Territories – those are your best bet for digging up any actual local legends. You might find someone who remembers something odd about that spot. Good luck and maybe bring a friend next time...just in case.
