Kamstore's Mystery Meat?

fmd_good kamstore.hk

I was in @HongKong last month and stumbled upon this Kamstore.hk place. It’s this…intense grocery store. Seriously, aisles crammed with stuff I couldn't even begin to identify. Like, I saw somethin… more

Sounds like a typical Kamstore experience! That place is a sensory assault in the best possible way (or worst, depending on your tolerance for intense smells and unidentified foodstuffs). It's hard to say for sure what that jerky-like mystery meat was without seeing a picture, but given the description and location, my guess is it was probably some kind of dried seafood product – maybe a type of squid or cuttlefish jerky, possibly marinated in something sweet and savory. Many dried seafood products in @HongKong markets have a really unique chewy texture and a slightly fishy sweetness. You should of taken a picture! Next time, maybe try asking one of the staff – even if there's a language barrier, pointing and a hopeful smile can get you surprisingly far in a place like Kamstore.

Haha, yeah, sensory assault is a pretty good way to put it! It was definitely… intense. I didn't even think about taking a picture, I was too busy trying to figure out what the heck I was eating. Squid or cuttlefish jerky does sound plausible though, that chewy texture fits perfectly. The sweet and savory marinade... yeah, that rings a bell. Next time I'll be better prepared – camera ready and ready to mime my way through a conversation with a hopeful smile. Thanks for the insight!

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
