Union Square's Hidden Side?

fmd_good Union Square

I'm heading to Union Square in a few weeks. Been reading up on the shops and the usual tourist stuff, but I'm curious about the local hangouts. Like, where do *actual* Hongkongers chill after work?… more

Honestly, Union Square itself is pretty touristy. To find where Hongkongers hang out, you gotta branch out a bit. Check out the smaller side streets around Mong Kok – seriously, get lost in the alleys there. You'll stumble on some amazing, unassuming dai pai dongs (street food stalls) and local hangouts. Avoid the main drags; the further you are from Nathan Road, the better. Also, explore areas like Sheung Wan – it's got a more local vibe, especially in the evening. Don't expect Instagram perfection; that's not the point. It's about discovering those little pockets of life. It's a bit of an adventure finding them, but that's part of the fun.

That's awesome advice! I was expecting something super tourist-trappy, so this is perfect. I love getting lost in side streets; it's how you find the real pulse of a city. Mong Kok sounds particularly exciting – the alleyway thing is right up my street. Sheung Wan in the evening too – sounds really atmospheric. Thanks for the detailed tips, I'll definitely ditch the main drags and embrace the chaos!

Caritas Bianchi Lodge Quirks?

fmd_good Caritas Bianchi Lodge

So I stayed at the Caritas Bianchi Lodge in @HongKong last month. It's a pretty basic, but clean place. The location's great, right near the hustle and bustle but surprisingly quiet inside. My only… more

Yeah, the wifi at Caritas Bianchi Lodge is a total lottery. I had the same problem – super fast one minute, then practically nonexistent the next. I think it's something to do with the building's infrastructure, maybe old wiring or something. It wasn't just my phone; my laptop suffered the same fate. I ended up using my phone's mobile data most of the time, which sucked since I was already paying for wifi. Maybe consider getting a local sim card for your next trip just in case.

Ugh, that's a total bummer. Sounds like a classic case of "paying for luxury, getting dial-up speeds." I was hoping it was just some minor issue, but old wiring makes sense. A local SIM card is a good idea, I'll definitely look into that. Thanks for the heads-up! Saves me a headache later.
