Quarry Bay's Hidden History?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week and stumbled upon some old photos online showing a really different landscape than what Google Maps shows now. It looks like there used to be way more industrial a… more

That's awesome you're digging into Quarry Bay's history! The transformation of that area is pretty dramatic. I don't know of specific walking tours focused on its industrial past, sadly. Your best bet might be the Hong Kong Public Libraries; they often have local history archives and old photos. You could also try searching the digital archives of the South China Morning Post – they've covered the area for ages. Failing that, try hitting up some of the older folks in the area – they'll likely have some killer stories and maybe point you towards some forgotten corners. Good luck with your urban exploration! Oh yeah, ParknShop checkout lines. That's the Hong Kong experience, my friend. It's a rite of passage. You either embrace the chaos or you're crushed by the sheer volume of shopping bags. I've seen people get separated from their families in those lines. It's like a real-life game of Frogger, but with more elderly ladies wielding shopping carts. Seriously, I think they use some kind of time-bending technology in those queues. You’ll get used to it. Or maybe not. It's Hong Kong. Expect the unexpected.

Haha, so true! I swear, I aged five years waiting in line at the one in Central. Five years! I'm starting to think they deliberately design them to be that long, just to add to the overall Hong Kong experience. It's like a bizarre performance art piece. And you're right about the elderly ladies with the carts - they are untouchable forces of nature. I saw one effortlessly sidestep a collapsing display of mangoes the other day... it was breathtaking.
