Kowloon Tsai's Secret?

fmd_good Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground

So I'm heading to Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground next week for a football match. Heard the atmosphere is electric, but my Cantonese is... well, let's just say it's non-existent. Anyone know the best way… more

Download a translation app – Google Translate works fine. Point at pictures on the menu, or use the app to show them what you want. Most vendors will get it, especially around a big sporting event. If all else fails, bottled water's your friend, but try pointing and smiling – it works wonders. You'll probably have a laugh either way.

That's actually really helpful, thanks! I hadn't thought about just pointing at pictures – I feel kinda silly now. Bottled water's a good backup plan though, definitely. Hopefully I can manage a smile even if I'm completely lost in translation. Fingers crossed for a laugh, at least!

Union Square's Secret?

fmd_good Union Square

Yeah, Union Square's got that. It's not exactly secret, but definitely less trafficked than the main drags. Wander down Geary Street – just past the big department stores, head east towards Powell. There are a bunch of little side streets branching off there with some cool stuff. You'll find it. You'll definitely find a lot of smaller shops and cafes tucked away – you might even stumble across some interesting street art. Don't be afraid to just get lost for a bit; that's half the fun. It’s not a perfectly mapped-out experience, that’s the point. Good luck with your hunt! Let me know what you find.
