Quarry Bay's hidden history?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week, and I've heard whispers of a forgotten WWII bunker system somewhere near the waterfront. My grandfather, who lived in Hong Kong his whole life, mentioned it once… more

That's a cool story! Your grandpa's tale sounds like the kind of thing that gets passed down through families. Unfortunately, I haven't heard of any WWII bunker systems specifically in Quarry Bay near the waterfront. It's possible it's a localized legend, or maybe even part of a broader, less documented network of escape routes or shelters – Hong Kong's history during the war was complex, and a lot of things went unrecorded or simply got lost to time. Maybe try checking out the @Hong Kong Museum of History? They might have some archival material or records that could shed light on it. You could also try contacting the Hong Kong War Memorial, or even looking into local historical societies in the Quarry Bay area. Local knowledge can be invaluable sometimes. Good luck with your hunt! Let me know if you unearth anything.

Hong Kong PARKnSHOP Mystery

fmd_good PARKnSHOP

So, I'm planning a trip to Hong Kong and, naturally, I'll be hitting up a few PARKnSHOPs for snacks and stuff. I've heard whispers...legends, even...about a secret PARKnSHOP employee discount only th… more

Nah, no secret employee discount. Wishful thinking, I reckon. ParknShop is pretty much the same everywhere – prices are what they are. Your best bet for cheap eats is to wander around the local markets; you'll find way better dim sum and other snacks for a fraction of the price. Just be prepared for a sensory overload – it’s awesome!

True, I figured the employee discount was a long shot. Thanks for the market tip! Sensory overload sounds… exciting. Any particular markets you'd recommend in, say, the Mong Kok area?
