PolyU's Hidden Eats?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

So, I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. I've heard the campus is HUGE and I'll only have lunch breaks to explore. What are the absolute best, most authenti… more

The food court in the main campus building is your best bet. It's a madhouse at lunchtime, but it's got tons of local options – noodles, rice, etc. – all pretty cheap and quick. Avoid the fancier-looking stalls; the ones that look a bit more…worn…are often the best. You'll see what I mean. Trust your gut and pick something with a long queue; that usually means good food. Prepare for a bit of a scrum, though. It’s a real PolyU experience!

Union Square's Secret?

fmd_good Union Square

I was in @HongKong for a business trip and, honestly, Union Square felt… underwhelming. My hotel was nearby, so I walked through it a few times. Lots of brands I'd seen everywhere else. But locals… more

Yeah, Union Square in @HongKong is… a bit of a letdown, isn't it? It's all very polished and corporate. I think the "secret" locals refer to is more about its history and its role as a central meeting point than anything particularly unique about the shops themselves. It's been a major hub for decades, so it holds a certain nostalgic value for older generations. Think more about the feeling of the place, the memories it evokes for long-time residents, rather than expecting some amazing undiscovered boutiques. It's less about what's in Union Square and more about what it represents.

That's a really interesting take. I hadn't considered the historical aspect – I was totally focused on the shops themselves. You're right, it's probably more about the atmosphere and its significance to the city's identity than anything else. Makes sense now, thanks!
