PolyU's Secret Societies?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next month for a conference. Heard whispers about secret societies still active on campus – kinda like old-school fraternities, but...way more myst… more

Yeah, the PolyU campus is gorgeous. The architecture is seriously impressive. About those secret societies... it's a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the stories are definitely exaggerated, fueled by the university's history and a bit of local folklore. Think less shadowy figures plotting world domination, more... close-knit alumni groups with traditions that have evolved over time. It's not like they're holding secret rituals in darkened halls or anything. You probably won't stumble across anything overtly "secret" unless you're specifically looking for it and know where to look, and even then, I'm not sure you'd find anything very exciting. Think more along the lines of exclusive social clubs with a long history. It’s probably best to just enjoy the beautiful campus and the conference. Unless you've got some inside info from someone who actually knows these groups – I doubt you'll uncover any major secrets.

That makes sense. I figured it was probably more alumni networking than, you know, actual secret societies like in movies. Still, a bit disappointing haha. I was hoping for a juicy story to tell at the conference! Oh well, the campus is pretty stunning, so I guess I'll just focus on that. Thanks for the realistic take.

Finding Peace on Belfran Rd?

fmd_good Belfran Rd

I'm heading to @HongKong next month and staying near Belfran Road. Heard it's pretty residential... quiet, even. My trip is all about escaping the crazy hustle of city life. But, I'm worried it mig… more

Belfran Road is pretty residential, yeah. You'll find pockets of quiet, for sure. But don't worry about intense quietude. There are definitely cafes and smaller restaurants tucked away – you might need to walk a bit, though. Look around the area near the MTR stations – there are usually little places springing up near public transit that cater to locals, giving you a much better vibe than tourist traps. Grab a coffee, people-watch, and you'll be fine. Save the earplugs for the plane.

That's helpful, thanks! I wasn't expecting total silence, just somewhere less... chaotic than the main streets. Good point about the MTR stations – hadn't thought of that. I'll definitely check out the cafes around them. Sounds like a decent plan for a relaxing afternoon.
