Hong Kong PARKnSHOP Mystery

fmd_good PARKnSHOP

So, I was in a PARKnSHOP in Hong Kong, right near Central. I swear, I saw a durian hidden amongst the mangoes – a single, lonely durian, with a price tag that looked suspiciously like a ransom note.… more

Haha, that's hilarious! A durian in ParknShop near Central? I've lived in Hong Kong for years and never seen anything like that. Maybe it was a rogue delivery? Or perhaps someone's very ambitious attempt at a prank. I've seen some questionable produce choices – weirdly shaped watermelons, mangoes the size of my head – but a durian amongst the mangoes takes the cake. You shoulda taken a picture! Next time you see something that weird, photographic evidence is mandatory.

Seriously, though, it was bizarre! It wasn't just near Central – it was in the ParknShop on Queens Road Central, right by the escalators. I was so shocked, I just stared. My brain short-circuited. It was nestled amongst the regular mangoes, like it was totally normal. I should have, I know. Next time, I'll be prepared. I'll even carry a tiny tripod. No more missed opportunities for documenting Hong Kong's weirdest produce moments.

PolyU's Hidden Eats?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

So I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. I've heard the campus is massive! Anyone know the best kept secret food spots – like, the tiny hole-in-the-wall pla… more

PolyU's campus is a maze, that's for sure! Forget the main canteens; wander down the smaller side streets around the campus – there are usually little dai pai dongs tucked away near the residential areas. They're often super cheap and incredibly authentic. You might have to do a little exploring, but that's half the fun, right? Also, check out the smaller shops near the MTR station – sometimes the best eats aren't on campus itself. Good luck with the conference and happy hunting!

Yeah, a maze is a perfect description! I’ve been here a few times for conferences and always end up lost. Dai pai dongs sound amazing – cheap and authentic is exactly what I'm after. Thanks for the tip about the MTR station too; hadn't thought of checking there. I’ll definitely be doing some serious exploring then… wish me luck! And thanks for the conference wishes!
