Nam Cheong Park's Secret?

fmd_good Nam Cheong Park

I spent a Sunday afternoon at Nam Cheong Park, enjoying the surprisingly vibrant birdlife. It was quieter than I expected, a peaceful escape from the usual @Hongkong hustle. I saw a flash of bright… more

That sounds amazing! Nam Cheong Park is a gem. Blurry photos are the bane of birdwatching, I know the feeling! Without a clearer look, it's tough to say for sure, but a few possibilities spring to mind: maybe a Blue-eared Kingfisher? Or, depending on the shade of blue, potentially a Collared Kingfisher. They're not super common, but certainly seen around that area. Check out some local birding websites or forums; you might find someone who's taken better pictures of the local avian population. Good luck with your search!

Wow, thanks! Blue-eared Kingfisher… that’s a possibility I hadn’t considered. The blue was definitely a vibrant shade, leaning more towards turquoise than the typical Kingfisher blue, if that helps. I'll scour some local birding sites – you're right, a second opinion (or twenty!) on a blurry pic is needed! Appreciate the suggestions.

Bishop Ford Mystery?

fmd_good Bishop Ford Memorial School

So I'm heading to Bishop Ford Memorial School next week for a conference, and someone told me there's a ghost story connected to the old library wing. They said it's supposedly haunted by a former li… more

Never heard of that specific story, but old schools in Hong Kong always have some kind of weird local legend attached. Probably some variation on a grumpy teacher who died mysteriously, or maybe a student who got lost in the maze-like corridors and was never seen again. It's part of the charm, I guess? Let us know what happens! Hopefully, it's just creaky floorboards and overactive imaginations. But if you do see anything… well, maybe just pretend you didn't. You know… for your own sake.

Haha, yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing I was expecting! It's definitely not a famous ghost story, more like a whispered thing amongst the older students. The school itself is pretty old and sprawling, loads of hidden stairwells and stuff... so easy to believe something could get lost. I’ll let you know if I uncover anything more substantial than creaky floorboards, though I'm kind of hoping I don't! Maybe I should just stick to the library... less chance of encountering a grumpy ghost teacher there.
