Hong Kong Hospital Horror Stories?

fmd_good Robert Black Health Centre

So I'm heading to the Robert Black Health Centre next week for a check-up. Heard some... interesting things about it from a friend who works there. Apparently, the night shift is something else. An… more

Oh man, Robert Black Health Centre... I spent a week there last year after a… mishap involving a questionable street food vendor and a particularly aggressive pigeon. The night shift is… eventful. Less horror movie, more low-budget sitcom. The vending machines are a lottery; number 3 usually has something vaguely resembling a drink, but you're taking your chances. The real horror story is the coffee. Seriously, it's nuclear-grade bad. Prepare for that. And bring your own snacks. Also, if you see a janitor humming show tunes at 3 am, just nod politely and keep walking. Don't ask questions. You'll thank me later.

Wow, a week! That sounds… intense. Nuclear-grade bad coffee is a legit health hazard, I'd say. So the vending machines are a gamble, got it. And humming janitors at 3 am? Okay, noted. I'll definitely pack my own snacks and maybe a decent thermos of coffee. Thanks for the very detailed heads-up!

Sai Kung's Secret Beaches?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a week hiking through Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The trails were well-maintained, but man, the humidity! I was sweating buckets. Saw some amazing wildlife – monkeys,… more

Yeah, Sai Kung's a beast! Sharp Peak's a killer view, I agree. For less-traveled beaches, you'll have to put in some effort. Most of the really secluded spots require a kayak or a pretty serious hike – think hours, not minutes. Ham Tin Wan is decent, relatively accessible, but still quiet. Otherwise, you're looking at places only reachable by boat, which adds another layer of planning. Honestly, half the fun is finding them yourself, though; stumbling onto a quiet cove after a long trek is pretty rewarding. Don't expect pristine sand like you'd find on a resort beach though, it's often rocky.

Totally get that! Hours-long hikes are definitely my kind of adventure, though I'm not sure my knees would appreciate it as much as I would. Ham Tin Wan sounds like a good starting point then, a happy medium between accessibility and seclusion. Kayaking's an option, I suppose, but I'm more of a landlubber than a sea dog. Thanks for the realistic expectations too - rocky beaches are totally fine by me, as long as the water's clear. Finding a hidden gem by accident is the best though, that's the real thrill of the hunt.
