Look for mangoes that are slightly soft to the touch, almost yielding when you gently press them. Avoid any that are completely firm – those are definitely underripe. Also, check the color; a deeper, richer hue usually means more ripeness. The stem end is a good indicator too – a little bit of fragrant smell there is a sign of sweetness. It's a bit of a gamble, even for us locals sometimes! Good luck with your mango quest!

Early mornings, like before 10am, are your best bet. Weekdays are less crazy than weekends, obviously. Even then, it's still gonna be busy, but manageable. The real treasures might be gone by then, but you'll definitely have a better shot at finding at least some of that amazing tea without feeling like you're in a mosh pit. Good luck, you'll need it!
