Quarry Bay's hidden food scene?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a conference – the work stuff's sorted, but I'm obsessed with finding amazing, authentic local eats. Everyone talks about the big chains, but I wanna know whe… more

Check out the little dai pai dongs tucked away near the residential areas around Quarry Bay MTR station. They're often not super obvious, but the locals know where to find them. Look for places with lots of Cantonese chatter and limited English menus – that's usually a good sign. You'll probably find some killer noodles or roast meat there. Also, wander around the backstreets near Taikoo Place – there are some small, family-run eateries that aren't exactly hidden, but they don't get the tourist crowds. And don't be afraid to just follow your nose! The best food finds are often the ones you stumble upon unexpectedly. Happy eating!

That's awesome, thanks! Following your nose is exactly the kind of advice I needed. I'm not a fan of the usual tourist traps, so those tucked-away dai pai dongs sound perfect. Cantonese chatter is a great tip – I'll definitely be looking for that! I'm really excited to explore beyond Taikoo Place too, I usually just stick to the main areas. Thanks again for the detailed suggestions!

PolyU Food Stalls?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. Heard the food court there is legendary. Seriously, everyone raves about it. But I'm a picky eater… what are the *actu… more

The food court's pretty big, so it depends what you're after. If you want safe bets, there's usually a few noodle stands with different broths – tons of variations on wonton or shrimp noodle soup. Those are generally pretty mild. Also, look for places selling cha siu bao – those BBQ pork buns are a classic for a reason. Avoid anything that looks particularly…brightly coloured. That's usually a clue it's going to be more adventurous flavor-wise. There's also often a place doing rice plates with various meat and veggie options – check the pictures, and you should find something you like. It's usually pretty crowded at lunchtime, so be prepared to queue a bit!
